Horse Racing Picks by Dietz for Gulfstream Park – Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021

Let’s make some money during commercial breaks watching NFL playoffs.

Race 7 – TURF

Few angles you must consider in the race. It will be a tough race to handicap.

  • 1 – FIRST HOUR – Saez/Pletcher. First time out horse going two turns on the turf at GP is noteasy. I tend to shy away from this. Could be way over bet based on connections. Caution.
  • 2 – BREEHAZEL – Lopez/Sano. Second time out horse who was pulled up and ridden out in debut after a very bad start. Lopez can close really well on turf and if this horse can take the gate experience he had you never know. I would use in exotics at a very big price.
  • 7 – CARIBE BEAN MOKA – Leparoux/Lynch. Second time out, second time on turf and has run one mile already. Bred to run all day from UNCLE MO. Why not in a wide open race.
  • 9 – STRONG MOMENT – Gaffalione/Abreu. Another first timer going two turns. Exotics only. Trainer hits at 24% with firsters and 24% on turf.
  • 8- SPEEDING – Jose Ortiz/Casse. Third race of the from cycle with a nice 63 Beyer last out. $300,000 purchase. Must use in all wagers.
  • 12 – SIMPLY THE BEST – Vasquez/Gargan. Another third time out horse with Beyers in the 60’ last out. Distance seems to be an issue. Caution.
  • Note: If SPILL THE TEA gets in off the AE list, use to WIN!!
  • TOP 3 – SPEEDING, CARIBE BEAN MOKA, CATIRUSIA, BREEHAZEL

Race 9 – TURF

  • 4 – AUNT NADINE – Gaffalione/Maker. One of two entries for Maker in this race, but this one drops in from Grade 3 level race where she was over matched. Back at a level she has won at and the rider helps huge. Top 2.
  • 6 – ROMAN D ORO – Irad/Casse. In a race full of speed this is the lone closer. Nobody will have the front end alone and if the pace is hot, this one will pick up the pieces. Top 3 with ease.
  • 7 – UNAQUOI – Saez/Maker. Second entry for trainer who hits at at almost 20% taking new barn horses to the turf. I do not think this one wins, but should be in the money.

Race 11 – TURF

Another two turn maiden race and I already mentioned that first time starters going two turns at Gulfstream Park is not a profitable bet. Looking at second time out horses.

  • 2 – WOW – Gaffalione/Henning. Trainer does not bring in many these days, but this horse has come in second last three races and now drops to the lowest level yet to break maiden. Top 2.
  • 3 – POINT WILD – Lenerie/McPeek. Second time out horse with a decent 65 Beyer in debut. Moves to turf for second try and is bred for it. Use in all wagers.
  • 6 – JOUSTER – Saez/Pletcher. Third race of the form cycle, now moves to turf. Paid $360,000 for a horse who is bred for turf. Bullet work coming in – 1/25. Consider in win bets.
  • 9 – TIZ AMERICAN – Jose/Kenneally. $350,000 purchase from AMERICAN PHAROAH. I will keep an eye on this horse for my virtual stable. Deep exotics only.

Good luck and thanks for horse racing with Dietz
