Demetrious Johnson is considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time. He departed the UFC in 2018 and has since made the move to ONE Championship. Many fans would love to see “Mighty Mouse” make a UFC return at some point, though. Johnson vs. Figueiredo would likely be the biggest flyweight fight in history.

Anything can happen in MMA. There’s a good chance that this fight could come together sometime in the near future. Today, we’ll discuss what needs to be done in order for this bout to take place.

Let’s get into it!

Demetrious Johnson’s Next Fight is Set for February!

MMA’s flyweight division has always faced criticism. Part of the reason for that was the dominance of Demetrious Johnson. Between 2012 and 2018, he dominated the division and racked up an incredible 11 title defenses.

After one loss to Henry Cejudo, “Mighty Mouse” left the UFC and made his way into ONE Championship. Fans were stunned at this announcement. Johnson isn’t necessarily a major Pay-Per-View draw, yet he is one of the best fighters on the planet.

DJ hasn’t lost a step during his time with ONE. He’s gone 3-0 with the promotion, most recently defeating Danny Kingad to win the ONE Championship Flyweight Grand-Prix. Not long ago, news broke that Johnson is set to return this February against current champion Adriano Moraes.

It’s a massive fight for the career of Demetrious Johnson. He has the opportunity to become the first former UFC champion to capture a belt in ONE Championship. It seems likely that most online sports betting websites will list Johnson as the favorite in this contest.

There’s a chance that Demetrious ends up ruling over ONE Championship in the same way that he did in the UFC. In fact, many now want to see him make a return to the promotion. He has some exciting new tests available, including current champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

DJ was recently asked about his thoughts on Figueiredo. Some were surprised to hear what he has to say about the new champ.

Here’s What Could Lead to Johnson vs. Figueiredo in the Future

Demetrious Johnson is not short on confidence. He’s proven that he can compete with the best fighters in the world. He’ll have a real shot at adding another world championship to his resume early next year.

The UFC remains the biggest MMA promotion in the world, though. At the moment, Deiveson Figueiredo is the champion of the UFC’s flyweight title. Not long ago, Demetrious Johnson was asked about his thoughts on Figueiredo. He claims the new champion still has a long way to go before ending the pound-for-pound discussion.

“Only time will tell if the hype is real,” Johnson said. “Do I think he’s a good athlete? 1,000 percent. But I need to see him fight more different styles and different athletes and the caliber of different guys. Then that’s when he’ll live up to the hype. A guy like Jon Jones, he’s beat (expletive) everybody, even on cocaine and testing positive and whatever. He still beat you… I would like to see him fight a Henry Cejudo or see him fight someone who is game and is able to win.”

Johnson definitely has a point. Figueiredo is clearly a legitimate champion with a wide range of skills in the MMA game. He’s still a new champion, however, and will need many more wins before fans can truly get on board with him as one of the sport’s best fighters.

There is now a real discussion about how Johnson vs. Figueiredo would play out. If DJ wins the title in February, he may decide that it’s time to head back to the UFC. That could set him up for a massive clash with the current champion sometime in late 2021.

There has never been more interest in the flyweight division than there is right now. This Saturday, the UFC’s 125-pound title will be on the line once again!

There is Still Time to Bet on the UFC 256 Main Event!

As many MMA fans know, UFC 256 is scheduled to take place this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card is stacked from top to bottom with incredible matchups. The main event features Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno competing for the flyweight championship of the world.

There is still time to wager on this event online! BetOnline, one of the best internet sportsbooks on the planet, is offering some amazing odds on every fight. Most fans are choosing to bet on the main event.

Deiveson Figueiredo is currently listed as the -315 favorite in this matchup. He has looked incredible lately with four-straight stoppage victories against high-level competition. It’s easy to see why many feel he will get a victory before the final bell in this bout.

There aren’t many fighters with the tenacity of Brandon Moreno. He has improved his grappling game immensely over the years and is able to absorb big shots to give his own. A submission win for Moreno isn’t out of the question, yet the challenger enters as the +265 underdog.

If the champion wins the fight tomorrow night, we could see Johnson vs. Figueiredo sometime in the future. It would be an incredible spectacle for fans around the world. We’ll be sure to offer any updates on this possible fight as they come out.
