We are exactly one week away from NBA regular-season action. That being said, until the regular season tips off on Wednesday, December 23rd, there is plenty of NBA preseason action to hold you over.
On Wednesday evening, the preseason continues as the Cleveland Cavaliers are in New York to face the New York Knicks. Both teams have 2 preseason games under their belts so far. The Knicks are 1-1, and the Cavs are 2-0
So, it’s JB Bickerstaff vs Tom Thibadeau. RJ Barrett vs Kevin Love. Cavs vs Knicks. The matchup is set to tip-off at 7:30 pm EST on Wednesday night and will be aired on MSG and FS-OH.
Cleveland Cavs: The Rebuild is On
For the Cavs, this season will not only be about winning, but about the progress that gets made towards their end goal of another championship.
The Cavs drafted Isaac Okoro and Dylan Windler who are set to get minutes this season. While at Auburn, Okoro averages 12.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting over 51% from the field.
Honestly, the Cavs pick of Okoro was rather puzzling. According to most NBA aficionado’s, there were at least a handful of players left on the board with higher floors and higher ceilings as NBA players.
That being said, Okoro was a beast at Auburn and he’ll get his fair shake in the NBA. We will just have to see what he does with it.
New York Knicks: The Return of Thibs
Tom Thibadeau is back on an NBA court, this time for the Knicks. While Thibs’ Army general style turns some players off, with the right group around him, Thibs can excel in New York.
We all saw what he could do with talent and great defensive play in Chicago a few years back. If Thibs can get the Knicks roster to buy into his system, primarily on defense, the Knicks rebuild may get sped up a bit.
The Knicks drafted Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley last month. Toppin has a huge upside and could be a mainstay in New York for years to come.
The Knicks will also rely on 2nd-year player, RJ Barrett, a lot this season. Barrett had a great rookie campaign, but the Knicks would like for him to continue his rise to stardom. The Barrett/Toppin combo could be huge for New York.
They also acquired Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and Austin Rivers this off-season. They certainly sped the rebuild up this off-season, if nothing else.
Picking The Winner, Preseason Style
One can never be certain of how much playing time different guys will get during the preseason. The games are more glorified practice scrimmages than anything.
That being said, no matter what part of the Knicks rotation plays the most, most of their roster is better than that of Cleveland.
BetOnline has the Knicks favored by 1 which makes this decision that much easier. You’ll want to take the Knicks and the 1 point here. New York dominates this preseason game and comes away victorious.
