The Grade II, $200,000 Goldikova Stakes will run as Race 9 on the October 25th card at Santa Anita Park.
The event for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares will cover one mile on turf and include names like Maxim Rate, Raymundos Secret, and Tonahutu among the field of seven.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Goldikova Stakes.
Betting Preview: Maxim Rate, Raymundos Secret
The morning-line favorite coming in at 8/5 is Slam Dunk Racing and James Branham’s Maxim Rate. The 4-year-old Exchange Rate filly is trained by Simon Callaghan.
She has a career record of 4-3-0 from 12 starts and earnings of $282,185. In 2020, she has two wins and two seconds from four outings.
Last time out, the filly finished second in the September 26th Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. Prior to that, she scored the August 16th CTT and TOC Stakes (Black Type) at Del Mar. Both of those races resulted in a 108 Speed Figure.
Her other win was a July 10th allowance optional claiming race at Del Mar.
Maxim Rate will break from Post 2 under jockey Umberto Rispoli.
Her biggest challenge coming into the race will likely be the 9/5 Raymundos Secret, owned by Sierra Racing and Sterling Stables. The 4-year-old Treasure Beach filly is trained by Phillip D’Amato.
She is 5-0-0 from seven career starts and has earnings of $188,971. Her 2020 performances include two wins from two outings.
The filly is coming off a September 5th victory in the John C. Mabee Stakes (G2) at Del Mar, where she registered a 107 Speed Figure. She also won an August 14th allowance optional claiming race at the track, and she closed out her 2019 season with a fifth-place finish in the October 26th Autumn Miss Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita.
Raymundos Secret will break from Post 3 under jockey Flavien Prat.
Betting Preview: Tonahutu
Another runner to pay attention to is the 4/1 Tonahutu, owned by ERJ Racing, Dave Kenney, and William Strauss. The 6-year-old mare from Sir Prancealot is trained by Doug O’Neill.
She is 5-7-0 from 20 career starts and has earnings of $209,381. This year, she has two wins and two seconds from seven outings.
She finished fourth last time out in the September 26th Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita, which followed a September 5th allowance optional claiming victory at Del Mar. Tonahutut also took second in the August 8th Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) at Del Mar.
She will have to overcome the outside Post 7 under Abel Cedillo.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Hang a Star (Post 1, 15/1), Atomic Blonde (Post 4, 8/1), Zee Drop (Post 5, 12/1), and Silberpfeil (Post 6, 8/1).

This should be a close one between the top two choices, Maxim Rate and Raymundos Secret. However, the latter has a good shot at taking it. Coming in with five wins from seven starts and an undefeated 2020 so far, Raymundos Secret has the speed to keep up and experience at the track.
