The $98,000 Street Sense Overnight Stakes will run as Race 8 on the October 25th card at Churchill Downs.
The event for 2-year-olds will cover 1 1/16 miles and include names like Super Stock, King Fury, Oncoming Train, and Eucharist among the field of seven.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Street Sense Overnight Stakes.
Betting Preview: Super Stock, King Fury
The heavy favorite coming in with a morning line at 8/5 is Super Stock, owned by Erv Woolsey and Keith Asmussen. The Dialed In colt is trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen.
He has a career record of 1-1-2 from five starts and earnings of $135,312.
Last time out, he took third in the October 3rd Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. He also finished third in the September 5th Iroquois Stakes Presented by Ford (G3) at Churchill Downs, first in the August 11th Texas Thoroughbred Futurity (Black Type) at Lone Star, and second in an August 4th maiden special weight race also at Lone Star.
Super Stock will break from the outside Post 7 under jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr.
Another top entrant among the field is the 9/2 King Fury. The son of Curlin is trained by Kenneth McPeek.
He is 1-0-0 from two career starts with earnings of $57,144.
He is coming off an eighth-place finish in the October 3rd Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland, which followed a September 3rd maiden special weight victory at Churchill Downs.
King Fury will break from Post 4 under rider Brian Joseph Hernandez, Jr.
Betting Preview: Oncoming Train, Eucharist
Coming in at 9/2 is Doubledown Stables’ Oncoming Train. The son of Mineshaft is trained by James DiVito.
He has just one career start and earnings of $42,000.
That one career start was a maiden special weight victory on October 3rd at Keeneland.
Oncoming Train will break from Post 2 under Rafael Bejarano.
Also among the field is the 5/1 Eucharist, owned by WinStar Farm. The gelding from Flatter is trained by Rudoph Brisset.
He is 1-1-0 from two career starts with earnings of $56,200.
Last time out, he took second in an October 24th allowance race at Keeneland. His victory came on debut in an October 4th maiden special weight race at the track.
Eucharist will break from Post 5 under Tyler Gaffalione.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Crime Spree (Post 1, 15/1), Arabian Prince (Post 3, 4/1), and Franz Josef (Post 6, 10/1).
Free Betting Pick
The Street Sense Overnight Stakes should go to the heavy 8/5 favorite Super Stock. The runner is trained by one of the greats in Steve Asmussen, and he has far more experience competing in stakes races compared to the other top entrants.
The one problem that Super Stock could face is the outside post, which could provide an opportunity for one of the other contenders.
