Shakhtar Donetsk will seek redemption when they take on Inter Milan in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League group stage on Tuesday, 27 October 2020.
Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan are alongside Borussia M’Gladbach of Germany and Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid in Group B of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League.
Both sides have already met in the 2005-06 Champions League qualifying, when Inter Milan prevailed 3-1 on aggregate, but the most memorable and recent meeting between these two sides was in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in August, when The Nerazzurri scored a remarkable 5-0 victory in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Shakhtar Donetsk Betting Preview
The Ukrainians have won the domestic Premier League title for a fourth consecutive year and reached last season’s Europa League semi-finals under Luís Castro.
The 2009 UEFA Cup winners have yet again made it to the headlines when they beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano in the first round of the Champions League group stage, but more remarkably, they did it without a number of first-team figures who were unavailable because they tested positive for coronavirus and did not travel to Spain’s capital.
Shakhtar Donetsk earned a comfortable 3-0 lead on half-time and eventually snatched the three points against a powerful Real Madrid , even though The Champions of Spain
Even though Shakhtar Donetsk are unbeaten for two months, since the Ukrainian Super Cup defeat to Dynamo Kyiv on 25 August, their domestic form hasn’t been that impressive as they have collected 13 points in the first seven rounds (3-4-0) and are four points behind the current leaders Dynamo Kyiv.
Shakhtar Donetsk will play four successive home games in less than a fortnight (within 11 days only) and the clash against Inter Milan is the second one, coming off a 1-1 draw with second-placed Vorskla Poltava in the domestic league over the weekend.
Whereas left-back Ismaily is recovering from a long-term injury (Cruciate Ligament Surgery), experienced centre-back Sergiy Kryvtsov, as well as fellow midfielders Maksym Malyshev, Viktor Kovalenko and winger Yevhen Konoplyanka are all recovering from injuries and none of them would be available for selection here.
The extensive list of first-team players who were ruled out of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Champions League opener includes the names of Sergiy Kryvtsov, Mykola Matvienko, Alan Patrick, Taras Stepanenko Taison and Junior Moraes – nearly an entire starting XI.
Depending on the negative tests and their form after the quarantine, Luís Castro could make changes or he might also opt for the same side that managed to beat Zinedine Zidane’s selection on the eve of their impressive victory over fierce rivals Barcelona in the El Clasico.
The 20-years-old Brazilian winger Tete and his Israeli counterpart Manor Solomon impressed against Real Madrid, with the latter also scoring in back-to-back league games since the international break.
Inter Milan Betting Preview
The Nerazzurri returned to winning ways following a disappointing week that saw them losing to arch rivals AC Milan and then saving a point late in their Champions League opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.
In fact, the 2-0 win at Genoa was Inter Milan’s first win since 30 September, when they beat the newly-promoted Serie B champions Benevento in the Serie A, which has been followed by a 1-1 draw at Lazio just before the October break.
Romelu Lukaku’s form has been truly remarkable as the Belgium forward continues his prolific spell with the Milan outfit, scoring four goals in his last three appearances for Inter Milan and will be keen to add to his tally on Tuesday, already scoring twice for the 2-2 draw with Gladbach.
Romelu Lukaku himself and fellow-striker Lautaro Martinez were among the goalscorers for the five-star triumph against Shakhtar Donetsk this summer, with both netting a brace for the final victory.
Danilo D’Ambrosio, who also scored against the Ukrainians, scored the second goal for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Genoa but despite his attacking contribution, Antonio Conte and the experienced defender could be pleased that The Nerazzurri have kept their first clean sheet in the new season and since the aforementioned thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Looking at Inter Milan’s weekend performance, Antonio Conte showed patience to find a way through the Grifone’s defense, who held out strong for the entire first half, but he would face a more potent attacking side on Tuesday.
With that said, Stefan de Vrij and Aleksandar Kolarov could both return into Inter Milan’s defensive line, unless Antonio Conte doesn’t plan to field the same trio of Andrea Ranocchia, Alessandro Bastoni and Danilo D’Ambrosio that featured over the weekend.
Achraf Hakimi, Radja Nainggolan and Ashley Young have all recovered from their coronavirus experience and the former two even came on the pitch in the second half at Genoa, while Young will work on his match fitness and is a doubt for the upcoming journey to Ukraine.
Stefano Sensi, Matias Vecino and Alexis Sanchez were ruled out of the weekend action through injuries, while backup goalkeeper Ionut Radu as well as fellow teammates Milan Skriniar and Roberto Gagliardini are waiting for their negative coronavirus swabs to end their quarantine.

This game looks prone to excitement and we expect another high-scoring encounter between Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan, though the Ukrainians should be able to show greater resistance than in August.
